How does it differ from the Asian belief? The root of the word "Torah" is the verb "to instruct". Some even call themselves "churches" and claim non-profit status. The names may also be followed by the title ha-Kohein (Hei-Kaf-Hei-Final Nun), ha-Levi (Hei-Lamed-Vav-Yod) or ha-Rav (Hei-Reish-Beit), indicating that the person was a kohein, a Levite or a rabbi. If a person did more deeds than sins on earth that he goes to Gan Eden after death. Nor did it turn tradition into something frozen, or worse, reshaped by a deliberate ideology of rigidity, as did ultra-Orthodoxy.

Became culturally Sephardic starting when the Jews were ethnically cleansed from Spain in 1492 (when Columbus sailed... nevermind) and migrated to the Ottoman Empire and mixed with the local Jews. Harkavi also believes that Jews reached Lithuania from the shortlived but flourishing Jewish state of the Khazars, who were among the founders of Kiev in 865. I think she does a nice job and I saw myself in here quite a bit. In Deuteronomy (5:18), the wording is slightly different: "And you shall not covet your fellow's wife, you shall not desire your fellow's house, his field, his manservant, his maidservant, his ox, his donkey, nor anything else that belongs to your fellow."

The Torah is written on scrolls and kept in a special cabinet called the aron hakodish, the holy ark, in synagogues. Against the day of the empire’s fall, they urged the people to quickly complete the building of the Temple. Early on, there was a serious schism between Hasidic and non-Hasidic Jews. Some countries went even further and completely expelled Jews, for example England in 1290 (Jews were readmitted in 1655) and Spain in 1492 (readmitted in 1868). The traditional garb of hats and prayer shawls was abandoned, as were “medieval” practices such as ritual chanting.
